Alina is a member of the firm’s Dispute Resolution team, with 20 years of experience, both in advisory matters, and dispute resolution. During her career, Alina has advised investment funds, key stakeholders and senior management from numerous industries, as well as advised and assisted State authorities and public institutions.

Alina has extensive experience in administrative and large tax disputes, as well as in civil cases of all sorts. She advises and represents clients from pre-litigation matters till the final ruling of the Supreme Court. Alina is also very experienced in arbitration proceedings before the ICC Paris and the CCIR’s Court of International Commercial Arbitration, with her main focus on disputes in infrastructure projects.

As part of her assorted advisory work, Alina managed, structured, negotiated, and closed a variety of commercial transactions and has provided legal advice and assistance to ensure that clients stay compliant with both local and international laws and regulations. Past projects have included a wide-variety of complex matters concerning regulatory issues, real estate acquisitions and due diligence and contracts as well as advising on public tenders and other public procurement proceedings. She has also assisted clients with data privacy and consumer protection topics.

  • Assisted an international EPC company, in the oil & gas industry, in connection with a major tax dispute concerning transfer pricing and the proceeds from a gas hub construction project.
  • Successfully obtained the cancellation of an order from the National Authority for Consumers to the largest retailers in Romania with regard to their decision to obligate that all menus and subtitles of all video games be translated into Romanian. This order, if it has remained, would have substantially affected the Romanian video games industry.
  • Successfully argued for the dismissal of an action aimed at the annulment of an arbitral award dismissing claims in excess of EUR 21 million against the National Company for Road Infrastructure Administration with regard to a large infrastructure provider.
  • Successfully obtained the cancellation of tax decision whereby the client was said to owe over RON 18 million in tax duties, mostly related to trade discounts.
  • Advised a supplier of power generation equipment in relation to the cancellation of a bank counter-guarantee issued to support a an international trade agreement, which fell under certain EU restrictions regarding Syria.
  • Represent the largest producer of natural gas in Romania in obtaining a partial cancellation of a negative supplementary profit tax decision (80% success) and negative VAT (97% success) decision.
  • Represented a large engineering company in connection with various disputes stemming from a large public procurement project.
  • Represented a heavy industry operator in connection with a large tax dispute, including before the European Court of Justice.
  • Successfully assisted a municipal company with respect to various court claims filed against it in excess of EUR 2 million.
  • Represented a client in heating industry in overturning a court decision concerning a property claim and finally securing the local municipality’s ownership over the thermal power plant
